13 years ago, the Fallout 3 known us has seen the light of day. But this version of the RPG hits is not the first attempt to implement the third offshoot of the series. How the adventure should look like in postaapokalypse, a fan shows in an original project.
Volley Fallout game Van Buren
Like all knowledge, Fallout 3 marked in 2008 the transition of the series of classical isometric graphics in the then popular 3D age. But that was not the original plan for the popular role-playing game.
Many years earlier, Black Isle Studios had to take a transposition of the third part, and as usual in isometric perspective. The project name was van Burden. But the project was in 2003, followed by the resolution of the studio. The then financial position of the parent company Interplay and the dwindling enthusiasm for classic role-play probably led to this decision. (Source: gamer)
In 2007, a Tech demo and a design document have been published to Van Buren, which betray the concept and setting of the lost fallout game. Some of them as well as the Lore of Van Buren form the foundation of another fallout favorite: New Vegas.

Resurrection of the discarded version
Since 2017, the fan and alone developer Adam Lack sits on the Revival of Project van Burden. Due to the existing basis, he builds the game true to the original in the Unity Engine and wants to offer the finished game sometime for free for players. When that will be the case can not be said. Lack is even in contact with earlier employees of Black Isle to accurately capture the essence of the game.
In a current Tweet, Lack proclaims the implementation of the last major technical feature and shows some impressions in a video :
Since Lack works alone on the project and no publication pressure behind it is, the release of a classic Fallout 3 version will probably last for a long time. With the revival of isometric RPGs by Divinity and Co. it will be exciting to see how a Fallout 3 would beat in this style today.
