The British Developer Team Roll 7 is not a blank sheet. In recent years, for example, the studio made a good name through the indie hits Olli Olli and Not a Hero . With Laser League the British now ventures their first multiplayer game. Even better: The futuristic action title could even be classified in addition to Rocket League in the ESPORT sector.
After the PC version of the competitive multiplayer spectacle has already been in the Steam Early Access for a long time, the PS4 variant is now also short before completion. Already on May 10, Laser League comes out for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. And all sports fans may look forward to a slightly different gaming experience.
What is laser league ?
At first glance, the game reminds of the arena battles from the film classic Tron . No wonder, Laser League builds on a very similar minimalist neon style as the template. Playfully, Roll 7 sets its own accents. You can optionally be in Mode 2-VS-2, 3-VS-3 or 4-VS-4. The aim of every round is to turn off the opposing team.
Launy laser battles for multiplayer friends
What sounds like it is in practice an exciting mix of skill, teamwork and tactics. On each of the cards you have to activate nodes, which then turn on in your colors marked, rotating laser walls. If a member of the opposing team runs there, it goes to the ground and must hope for support of a comrade.
Class struggle
Basically, the maximum eight players have no armament. So again and again you sprint side by side with the competition through the areas and could not align anything against your adversary. The necessary spice finally bring the six character classes into the matches. Roll 7 perfectly balances the talents of the virtual athlete against each other.
If you control a figure of the blade class, you have a blade attack. But this attack involves a great deal of risk. Namely, the own character character is forward and if you do not pay attention, you catapult yourself in one of the barriers. Between victory and defeat are often only a few millimeters. More practical and less dangerous, the Shock class precipitates with which your counterpart player stuns shortly. The Thief, on the other hand, conquers by the opponent-occupied nodes and the Smash class hurls counterparties through the arena. There are also the invisible Ghost and the teleporting Snipe.
In the hands-on, the classes proved to be very variable. At the same time they grab into each other seamlessly and, above all, the mixture of teams often makes the difference. Rarely, for example, three blades were a perfect combination.
Neon reclamation with substance
But how does Laser League actually plays? The answer: excellent. In the Prerunde we quickly find the entry into the neon battles and deliver exciting duels with other beginners. But the learning curve is steep and so we find it fix that not only tactics and agreements, but above all, speed is required. Let s stay in the arena, the opposing team is just too fast. Even if we only deny a few training matches with the computer KI, this brings us to the edge of despair.
Laser League may look simply, but very quickly creates a high competition character. No matter if together on the couch or online - the game sparks a uneminol dynamic. Every hit annoyed us and every successful TakeDown called a joy of joy. Laser League is one of these games that are quickly learned, but hard to master.
So that the gaming experience always remains fresh, there are a total of three stadiums with 12 different layouts: The Empire Campus created in London, for example, offers enough space for struggles in the Nine Club, as Gauntlet it will be very fast. A special challenge is the mastery of the 16 powerups: with drain it sucks off the special energy compared to the special energy, with speed up it accelerates the rotation of the traps. There are also two character modifiers for each playing class, bringing additional spice into play. For sufficient variety, so it seems to be taken care of and the simple but still demanding game principle should be a guarantee for milestone multiplayer duels.
